I have lived in San Diego for nearly four years. We may not have our sports teams figured out, how to afford to live here with less than two jobs, or efficient public transportation, but I can say with confidence is that we know how to innovate fresh ideas when it comes to the local craft shops. This includes restaurants, boutiques, and my favorite – coffee shops.
I have found the three trendiest coffee shops in San Diego you MUST TRY. Not only Instagram-able, but taste-y sources of caffeine, twists on traditional avocado toast and vegan doughnuts…
I first discovered Communal Coffee because of it’s head turning curb appeal from driving by. I was headed to another coffee shop down the street but stopped abruptly when I saw a wall dripping in succulents. It’s been my favorite study spot ever since.
They even have a collaborative atmosphere that includes Native Poppy, a floral design company. You can sip on a rose vanilla latte while enjoying an array of fresh, in seasons blooms. Get the full low down here: Communal Coffee

What to get:
Toast flight which includes goat cheese + lavender + honey toast, avocado with a hard boiled egg + sea salt toast and ricotta tomato caprese toast. Pair this with a lavender honey latte. You won’t be disappointed.
This place is one of a kind. Palm walls, pink velvet booths, and white marble counter tops are an Instagram dream come true. Don’t forget about the neon sign, “You, Me, Matcha.” It is as adorable as it is delicious.
Holy Matcha has an array of goodies to try. They make coconut based, dairy-free soft serve in house daily until they run out, so go early! They had a special charcoal-matcha flavor which was so creamy and delicious, I hardly believed it was dairy-free. I also tried the vegan doughnuts (melt in your mouth) and strawberry matcha lemonade which was perfectly refreshing. Matcha has less caffeine than coffee, but contains enzymes to help your body break it down, causing less jitters. Try switching up your coffee routine for a Matcha Latte. What to get:
Matcha coconut soft serve, iced matcha latte, and a vegan rose doughnut with edible flowers.
